STREET CHILDREN PROJECT

No child should be bereft of education. Every child should go to school and get the opportunity to complete his/her education.

TARGET GROUP: Children of school-going age, who do not go to school, i.e. children who are out of the mainstream education system. These children belong to underprivileged sections of society, who have either never been to school or have dropped out of school at some stage.

HOW WE WORK: We bring these children to our classes, where they start learning. Soon we integrate them into the mainstream education system by getting them tuition support. We help them stay ahead in class thus ensuring they do not drop out again.

We have three types of batches studying at our centres throughout the day. One batch comprises out-of school children who are being coached for school admission – we call this the Fresh Batch. The Second Batch is those students who go to school in the evening and come to study at our centres in the morning. The Third Batch comprises students who go to morning school and come to our centres for tuition classes in the afternoon. All students participate in extra-curricular activities, such as dancing, singing, playing, short skits based on social issues, drawing etc.

LAUNCHED in June 2007

BENEFICIARIES: 2470 children

ENGLISH LANGUAGE COACHING

Reading and writing skills of English language are important assessment criteria for higher studies as well as professional hiring. English is a weak area for most students from underprivileged background and they suffer from lack of access to focused language classes. We provide special English language classes for students in Basti clusters, specially focusing on basic grammar and vocabulary. These classes are held regularly for our in-house students throughout the year, and especially for other students during summer and winter holidays.

LAUNCHED in 2014

BENEFICIARIES: 368 students

EDUCATION THROUGH MOTIVATION & FACILITATION

Many underprivileged children tend to leave studies mid way due to family circumstances. In certain cases the child has overgrown his/her class age or is unable to attend regular school hours due to personal reasons. We counsel these children and their parents and motivate them to resume studies. Where possible we facilitate resumption of their studies through admission to regular school. In other cases we faciliate their admission to the school of open learning. In every case, tuition support is available free of cost at our Centres, at a time convenient to the student.

LAUNCHED in 2017

BENEFICIARIES: 38 students facilitated for open school learning.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships are provided to meritorious students for computer and other professional courses.

BENEFICIARIES: 43 students supported for higher studies and job-oriented courses.

COMPUTER LITERACY

Special computer literacy classes are undertaken for students. Computer literacy is a must nowadays and has become vital for professionals in every field. Keeping this in mind, we introduced computer classes (basic course) in 2019 for our students of Class V and above.

LAUNCHED in September 2019

BENEFICIARIES: 32 students have completed basic computer course.

SAKSHARTA ABHIYAN (Adult Literacy campaign)

MISSION: Many adults, especially women, are completely illiterate. They are, therefore, unable to independently take care of certain basic needs like banking, travelling, paperwork etc. We counsel and encourage women to learn to read and write Hindi language so that they are empowered.

TARGET GROUP: The target group for this project is women who have crossed 14 years of age and are still illiterate. We teach them how to read and write Hindi. Once literate, women experience many positive changes in their lives. LAUNCHED in 2015

BENEFICIARIES: 69 ladies can now read and write Hindi language.
